Getting Married

Getting Married

First of all, congratulations! Getting married will be the start of a new chapter in your relationship, and we would be delighted to support you.  If you're thinking about a church wedding, we'd love to help you plan it! Just ring the vicar, on 01132497371 (evenings are best), and we'll arrange for you to meet one of the staff, who will do everything possible to make your special day go the way you want it. You might even think about holding your reception in the church or the Parish Centre.

You'll probably have lots of questions, and  we'll be happy to talk about these when we meet you. There's also lots of information in the  ‘frequently asked questions' on the Church of England's website Your church Wedding You can find details there of the marriage service itself, and some suggestions for music and readings for your special day.

Marriage after Divorce

Though as a church we believe that a marriage should be life long, we also recognise that human beings don't always get things right, and therefore relationships breakdown and sometimes people wish to re marry after divorce.  If you find yourself in this situation and wish to be married in a church, please do come and talk to us.  As you might expect, there are some regulations regarding this and we take advice from the Bishop. However,  in most circumstances we are willing to conduct marriages for people who have been divorced, so please do come and talk to us.

Supporting marriage

There's more to marriage than your wedding, of course, and you may be interested in reading about the Mothers Union, and their role in promoting and strengthening marriage and family relationships. Their website address is

We are also planning to run a course for those preparing for marriage. If you are interested please ask us about it.

Blessing of Marriage after a civil wedding (at a Registry Office or hotel etc).

Not everyone is in a position to get married in a church and so we also offer an opportunity for people who get married elsewhere to have their marriage blessed in church. This can be a big occasion, or a small one, depending on your circumstances. If you are interested in this please contact the priest in charge -(01132497371). We wish you every blessing as you prepare for this important day in your lives.
